Video Production: Process Overview
with Aidan Hennebry
I don’t know many people with a ton of time on their hands, so I’ll keep this as short as possible.
If you have any questions about anything, please let me know. I would be happy to provide more detail.
1. Project scope, contract, deposit
Reaching out to me
Discussing the project at hand and what we hope it will accomplish
Drafting up a contract, signing it, and making a deposit
2. Strategy, script, shot list
Meeting in order to strategize what the key takeaways are for the video
What do we want our audience to remember about our company after watching?
Reverse-engineering our strategy to develop a script based on what we want our audience to know
What ideas, phrases, and words do we want to be associated with?
Reverse-engineering our script to develop a shot list
What visuals—literal or metaphorical—can convey our script in a compelling way?
With our script, ensuring all final decision-makers are included as early as possible
3. Production details, finalizing variables
Determining a shoot date and approximate shooting schedule
Determining necessary talent and/or products to appear on camera
Determining and scheduling any additional resources needed (actors, gear rental, location rental, etc.)
Finalizing any unique outstanding details prior to day of production
4. Day-of production
Aidan shows up as scheduled to actually shoot the video as planned
Client has option to be on-set to guide any necessary creative decisions
This is to be determined in Step 2 & 3
5. Editing, revisions
Taking all of that footage and literally editing it together into a version of the film
Sending of a first version / rough cut
All decision-makers should see it at this point
Notes about changes and revisions
Send new version, final round of changes
6. Final hand-off
Final export of video is performed
Payment of any outstanding funds
Final video assets are sent to client
Of course, every project looks a little bit different! In some cases, a few of these steps will be combined or abbreviated.
If you have any questions about your specific project, again, do not hesitate to ask.
