Chestnut Avenue Auto

Film Proposal

May 2021 | Aidan Hennebry

 The Project

In the city of Hamilton, it’s hard to find an honest, reliable mechanic who isn’t going to shake you down at the first opportunity. That’s why I want to make a 3 to 5 minute micro-documentary about Chestnut Avenue Auto and the team that make it such a stand-up shop to trust your car with.

The Execution

Over the course of a few days, Aidan will capture shots of: the city of Hamilton, the Gibson neighbourhood, the team working, and any other relevant details that pertain to the film. Additionally, Aidan will sit down with a handful of the team that wish to be interviewed (likely Pat, Matt, and Bob) and chat about the past, present, and future of the garage.

The Script

As opposed to having a strict script we need to abide by, the core of the film would be made up from sound bites gathered from the interview with the guys. We set the cameras up, hit record, and just talk. Honest and real; just like the shop.

The Feel

We’re aiming for the stunning visuals of a feature-length film, but with the accessibility of a home movie. We’ll balance between formal, clean shots and candid, documentary-style coverage. At times a little grainy, a little shaky. But always full of soul. Always human.

The Message

While we’ll be indirectly promoting Chestnut Ave Auto, we’re also providing a look behind the curtain of how this garage is truly different, at a foundational level, from the others out there. We want to highlight the neighbourly approach to business Chestnut Ave Auto takes that is so unique and foundation to this shop.

 The Timeline

Ideally, I’d love to start filming as soon as reasonably possible. Before the end of May would be the dream, so that I can edit everything together and have a finished film before the end of June. I’m a guy who likes to strike while the iron is hot.

The
Budget

100% free of charge. This micro-documentary video, and all other deliverables (possibly a handful of still photos) will be entirely complimentary from me. Traditionally, this project would be in the realm of $4000 - $6000.

 Ready?

As you can hopefully tell, I’m already really excited about this project, and hoping it piques your interest. If you’re ready to start talking about making this vision a reality, let me know!
